🍁 MV in the Off-Season: Fall Edition
Things to do as the colors change, the crowds shrink and the air cools
The island quiets this time of year and it makes for the most lovely place to enjoy New England colors and traditions. We’ve rounded up our favorite suggestions for how to take advantage of this place and weather!
Enjoy Unique Outdoor Adventures
Visit beaches that are usually “town permit only” - this time of year is great because you can take a walk on nearly any beach without the parking struggles or constraints. Head up to Lucy Vincent, Lamberts Cove or Philbin Beach to enjoy a serene walk and view
Visit Mytoi Gardens or Polly Hill Arboretum these are some amazing spots for fall foliage and uniquely peaceful gardens! You might even get them all to yourself!
Explore new trails with the MVTrails app, or bike routes with the MV Bike Paths app - we also published this guide with our 6 favorite walk recommendations for fall
Explore the Farm Scene
There is often space open for Farm tours at FARM institute and Grey Barn, which can be hard to come by in the summer. FARM institute has lots of cooking classes and kids events too!
Visit Island Alpacas and meet the alpacas, this is a great spot for kids year-round.
Misty Meadows also has fun fall events for those interested in meeting the horses or horseback riding
Learn some Island History
Tour the lighthouses: at least 3 are still open for tours!
MV Museum and The Carnegie always have a new speaker or exhibit happening
Try a new restaurant
Some of the difficult spots during the summer to get reservations for are still open! Take advantage of these openings (here’s a list of restaurants that take reservations). We suggest Alchemy, Sweet Life, Atria, Detente, l’etoile, Pawnee House and Beach Road.
Explore a New Activity
Explore the island with a Cottage City Oyster farm tour
Get out on the water with Island Spirit Kayak + paddle board tours
Learn to fly fish or cast with Kismet Outfitters
Sign up for some Featherstone Arts Classes (some of these are designed so visitors can attend them for just a one-day class too!)
Shop Great Sales and Discounts
So many island shops are featuring deep discounts between October and December! This is a great time to get incredible steals as stores clear inventory before their winter hibernation
Attend Seasonal Events
Harvest Festivals, Halloween, Artisans fairs… there’s tons of festive happenings on the island! Be sure to check out our weekend updates with happenings each week.
There’s so many reasons to get out and enjoy this fall!
