Equine experiences for kids and families on a beautiful West Tisbury farm
We recently took our daughter for her first pony ride at Misty Meadows, and I left feeling genuinely grateful this place exists on the Island! She was nervous since this was her first real encounter with a horse, but the staff met her with so much care and patience. She was encouraged to try a practice ride first, gently introduced to the pony, and even got to choose which horse she rode. Watching her go from hesitant to absolutely glowing with pride was unforgettable!

Misty Meadows is a PATH International Accredited Center in West Tisbury offering year-round, inclusive programming for kids, adults, and individuals with special needs. The experienced team leads well-organized classes and seasonal activities in a welcoming environment with both indoor and outdoor arenas.
Programs run year-round and include Barn Buddies, mini camps, adult horsemanship, therapeutic riding, and more. Their website makes it easy to explore drop-in options or commit to something longer term.
🧒 Our Pony Ride Experience
We booked a Saturday morning pony ride (offered 10am–12pm) and arrived to a calm, welcoming scene. Multiple staff members greeted us and helped put my daughter at ease. She was shy at first, so they encouraged her to start on the practice horse—a stationary setup where kids can get familiar with the feel of sitting on a saddle.
She got to choose her pony, approach and pet the other horses, and take her time before the ride. The staff member who walked with her during the ride explained everything so clearly and was wonderful with her three-year-old nerves. I was able to walk alongside her the entire time, which gave us both peace of mind.
At the end, she received a little card with her pony’s name and a bracelet that she now treasures. The experience felt thoughtful from start to finish. She's already asking to go back!
