💎 Martha's Vineyard Food Guide: Swaps for Your Go-To Restaurants
If you like ___, then try ___! Restaurants that have similar vibes in different locations
The Vineyard is full of incredible dining options, but sometimes we end up recommending and frequenting the same crowded spots, year after year. I’ve rounded up some of our favorite gems and shared what some great alternatives are. Enjoy!
If you like 7a, then try Katama General Store
I recently had a KGS Breakfast Sandwich, and it truly blew my mind with the way they continue to level up their take-out selection. If you’re a 7a Breakfast Sandwich Stan, consider going out of your way for this picturesque porch.
If you like Home Port, then try Outermost Inn
These two fall into the same category in my head - unforgettable, up-island, must-try restaurants. Don’t get me wrong, they are so unique, but the scenic views and prix-fixe BYOB approach make for similar feels.
If you like Waterside Market, then try Tigerhawk
If you find yourself looking for a filling sandwich, Tigerhawk will be an ideal place to stop in and grab a picnic or a hangover-curing breakfast sandwich, with constantly rotating menu surprises.
If you like Net Result, then try John’s Fish Market
Heading out of Vineyard Haven you’ll find John’s - a less-crowded version of Net Result with similar offerings and a classic Cape feel.
If you like Nomans, then try Katama Kitchen
Both venues are tucked away (in OB and Edgartown, respectively) and are great for families, large groups, dogs, and have expansive views. Now that Katama Kitchen is open for dinner it’s a wonderful swap for families.
If you like Behind the Bookstore, then try Aalia’s Coffee
If you find yourself in OB instead of Edgartown, you’ll find similar vibes at Aalia’s with a fun artisanal coffee menu, unique pastries, and a quaint patio.
If you like The Wharf, then try The Alley
If you’re looking for a late-night bar scene, The Alley is a more hidden option on Kennebec. If you’re not looking for it, you’ll miss it!
If you like Seafood Shanty, then try Coop De Ville
Both offer entertaining views of the harbor (Edgartown or OB), and are a sure bet for a fresh lobster and a beer.
If you like Biscuits, then try Winston’s Kitchen
We love to support both black-owned businesses in OB harbor, but Winston’s often gets overlooked for its top-tier grab-and-go breakfast (+ lunch or dinner) options. Pop in for a BEC with a much shorter wait time!
If you like Chilmark General Store, then try The Fish House
With a tucked away up-island feel, both markets offer convenient options to either cook at home or enjoy on the porch. Trade your slice of pizza for a poke bowl!
If you like Black Sheep Mercantile, then try The Model Deli
If you’re into artisanal curated selections, both of these have a comparable enthusiasm, with Black Sheep tucked away in Edgartown and The Model Deli as a new-ish face in VH. While their cuisines/offerings are different, they’re a fun swap.
If you like Sweet Life, then try The Covington
If you’re looking for an unforgettable, yet unpretentious fine dining, these two are on equal footing. Worth making a reservation far in advance, you’ll be blown away by new flavors from both chefs.
If you like Back Door Donuts, then try Pie Chicks
We loved the way BDD used to be insiders only, on a #IYKYK basis. Locals similarly love baked goods from Pie Chicks tucked behind a shopping plaza in Vineyard Haven. You can grab fantastic coffee cake (they have more than just pie!) or slice of berry pie from this spot any day (not just at the Farmers Market).
If you like Rosewater, then try Scottish Bakehouse
Quite a distance from each other, these two spots offer a healthy variety of grab-and-go options for any situation. Pick up a high quality iced coffee and a loaf of Portuguese sweet bread to fuel up for your day!
Of course we encourage you to continue to go back your favorites, and you can flip flop any of the alternatives on this list!
