Martha's Vineyard Activity Spotlight: Classic Aviators Biplane Ride
An MV Bucket List Item - tour the island by plane!
I’ve grown up seeing the little red planes do flips over South Beach, and this past week I finally got to check that item off my bucket list and see MV from above!
🎖️About Classic Aviators
For over 20 years, Classic Aviators has been flying guests to see the island from above in restored WACO-UPF7 biplanes. These historic aircrafts are known for their reliability and role in military training - plus they’re pretty cute! The pilots are FAA-certified commercial pilots with tens of thousands of hours of experience, and they guided us through an incredibly safe (and fun!) tour.
🌍The Flight Experience
Classic Aviators offers a range of flight experiences, from the 15-minute scenic Chappaquiddick Tour to the comprehensive 60-minute Island Loop. Each tour is designed to showcase different facets. And if you’re braver than me, you can even add in the “Thrill Ride” package for some flips!
I experienced the "35-minute Towns and Beaches" tour which circles Chappaquiddick and follows the coastline around State Beach, East Chop, and West Chop. Highlights included:
Views of Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, and their lighthouses.
Unique sights like a sunken ship, prestigious houses and (on some days) even sharks.
Interactive commentary from the pilot via headset, enhancing the tour with historical facts and interesting details.
Note that I am especially sensitive to motion sickness and was comfortable this whole ride, the pilot was incredibly conscious of making us comfortable!
