🪡Martha's Vineyard Activity Spotlight: Sip + Stitch at Erica Wilson
Everything you need to know about weekly needlepoint gatherings in Edgartown
I recently attended the weekly Sip + Stitch at the new-to-MV Erica Wilson, and it was a wonderful way meet dip my toes into the world of needlepoint in a low-stakes way.
I LOVE crafty things, so I can’t wait to tell you more:
🧵About Erica Wilson
Known as America’s “First Lady of Stitchery,” Erica Wilson’s longtime Nantucket legacy lives on at her iconic shop, now also in Edgartown. The company is now managed by her daughter, and upon landing in MV they have made so many efforts to immerse themselves into the community. This space is a treasure trove of fashion and needlepoint supplies, offering everything from exclusive needlepoint kits to carefully curated materials for all skill levels. It’s a gathering spot for those new to the hobby and community experts.
🌍 Sip + Stitch Experience
Held every Thursday evening, Sip + Stitch welcomes needlepoint fans of all levels, whether you’re starting a new project or bringing one you’ve already begun. The relaxed, BYOB setup fosters a friendly, communal environment, making it perfect for solo visitors or groups. With beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) in hand, participants can ask questions, share tips, and browse the shop’s extensive materials. It’s an ideal weekly escape for meeting others who share a love for the art.

Supplies: The supplies for my beginner project (pictured above) cost about $55, and they patiently guided me through picking every component. A beginners project would include the canvas, thread and finishing materials and they would provide a needle. More complex projects including thread, custom canvas and finishing materials woulds start at about $100+

✨ Pro Tips
Check out the shop’s monthly calendar for upcoming gatherings
They also offer pop-ups and collaborations with other on and off-island businesses, so keep an eye out for those
If I were to go back to complete a project, I would schedule a personal lesson, as I wouldn’t be able to pick up the skill at the Sip + Stitch alone. While it was amazing for exposure and community, I would plan to schedule a follow up lesson as opposed to dominating the time of the facilitator in this environment
Love Needlepoint? In addition to Erica Wilson, many island libraries offer events similar to this where you can go and learn! Don’t forget to grab your Custom Canvas here first
As a newbie to needlepoint, I felt supported and surrounded by humble and kind experts, which was a fantastic environment to learn something new. I can’t wait to finish my project and pop-in to see new offerings!
